How to light the menorah – chanukiah
Chanukah: the rededication of your body as God’s holy Temple;
Chanukah, The Feast of Dedication or lights, will begin on the 25th of Kislev, in the evening when the sun goes down,
and finishes on the 2nd of Tevet (it takes 8 days of lighting the menorah, each light represents a day).
The Chanukah lamp stand has nine Candle candles
The first thing that you begin with is to light the menorah (the nine candle stick Lamp stand),
you begin with lighting the candle called the servant which is in the middle of the lamp stand (sometimes it is on the left hand or the right hand side),
and this same candle light that is in the middle that is the one you light first every day, and you also use this candle light called the servant to light the other candles.
Chanukah is a eight day feast, so you light a candle each day until the last day of Chanukah, which falls on the eighth day.
On the first day you light the servant candle first, and then you use the servant to light the first candle on the lamp stand by it self,
and on the second day you light the middle candle light called the servant first, and then use the servant candle light to light the second candle on the menorah beginning with the candle on the left hand side of your shoulder moving towards the one on your right hand side of your shoulder.
On the third day you do the same thing, you must always light the servant candle first, which is the middle or on the side of the menorah, and then you use it to light the others,
On the third you put three candles on the menorah, and then you begin to light each candle from the left side of your shoulder progressing towards the right hand side of your shoulder.
Do the same thing on the fourth day, the fifth day, the sixth day, the seventh day until you complete lighting up the whole menorah with eight candles,
and the lighting of the last candle will fall on the last day, which is the eighth day of Chanukah.
The lighting of your Chanukah menorah takes place on the display of your window,
so that those that look through your window may see, observe and be illuminated by the light that comes from your righteous act of lighting the menorah.
Matthew 5:14-16 says; you are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lamp stand, and it gives light to all who are in the house.
Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your father in heaven.
