Sukkot – What is a Sukkah
What is a Sukkah?
Sukkot or The Feast of Tabernacles falls on the 15-22nd of Tishrei.
In the 7 days of the feast of Tabernacles, Israel the Jewish Nation was also commanded by Hasham (God) to dwell in Booths, also called sukkah in Hebrew as it is written in Leviticus 23:40-43.
In these seven days, from the 15th of Tishrei to the 22nd of Tishrei, the children of Israel were commanded to come out of their comfort zones,
from their expensive buildings and their successful achievements, so that they may dwell in a Sukkah which was is constructed out of palm tree branches, willow wooden boards and bough of leafy trees.
Now my question is; Why a Sukkah, and how does it apply to our spiritual life today?
As you can see that; these seven days of the Feast of Tabernacles comes after that great day of Yom Kippur, (The Day of Atonement, judgement, repenting and returning back to God), which falls on the tenth of Tishrei.
On this day (day of atonement) God also forgives all the sins of His people, and gives them a new and renewed purpose for their lives. As a result of what God has done, they celebrate and rejoice through these seven days of dwelling in booths (Sukkah), which takes place 5 days after the day of atonement.
This act of “dwelling in booths” is also a declaration of a spiritual statement which says that; “we are willing to go from our own luxury, comfort, and our successful achievements, so that we may pursue after His will and fulfil our spiritual commission He assigned unto us, in joy and in happiness”.
Everything that was done in the Old testament has a spiritual application to it for our relationship with God today.
Through this celebration (feast of Tabernacles), which takes place in the seventh month on God’s, Jewish calendar, This is when we totally surrender ourselves to God. In the same way as the bride gives herself to the fulfilment of her marriage vows, so we also commit ourselves to the fulfilment of God will in the earth.
When we have finished going through this precious feast of Tabernacles, we now become a bride to Yeshua Jesus Christ ( married and set a part), where we enter into a spiritual realm called; The impossible has become possible!
It’s time for you to look at your abilities (what you can do), through the eyes and the strength of God, and also you have got to remember that before change takes place in your life, There must be a changing of environment first in your life.
The scripture says; that God commanded them to dwell in booths (change environment, come out of what is holding you down, and enter into a place where you totally trust in Him, so that you may be able to perceive God’s existence, providence and reality in your life from a different angle).
Your account may be empty, but God’s account is not!
Your body may be sick, but God’s body is not!
You may be from a poor family, well! Yeshua, Jesus is not!
Then; What is it that is stopping you from dwelling in a booth? (a place of separating yourself from your old ways, and be able to connect yourself to His ways).
What is it, that is holding you back from trusting Him with all you soul, body, mind and will?
Is it your friends? If it is; it’s time for you to find new friends who are God fearing men and women of God, and network with them.
If you are one of those that likes shopping, it’s time for you to take the money you are wasting, and sow it in ministries that are spreading forth God’s vision in the Earth.
If you are still meditating on; how will it work out when I move? Well! it’s time for you to dwell in a booth (change environment for God’s sake).
